Lewiston Elementary
This will be my third year at Lewiston Elementary. I will be there on Tuesdays all day.
The current schedule for 2013-14 is:
Mrs. Burke - 1st grade - 9-9:30
First graders focus on feelings; they learn to recognize different feelings (using the correct vocabulary) plus how to cope with difficult feelings.
Mrs. Kibby - 3rd grade 12-12:30
Focus at this grade level is the making and keeping of friends. Students will also learn conflict resolution basics using "Simon's Hook".
Mrs. Kibby and Mrs. Zimmerman - 4th grade 12:30-1:00
Focus is on understanding what constitutes bullying and how to handle this behavior plus reviewing the bystander's role. Fourth grade will also learn strategies to manage their emotions through the "How does your engine run?" program.
Mrs. Zimmerman - 5th grade 1-1:30
Fifth grade learns about cyber safety as well as cyber bullying. In the month of January, 5th graders will learn about their personality by taking the True Colors inventory. They will also learn how they are smart through a Multiple Intelligence survey. This information will lead them to types of careers that will match their personalities.
Mrs. Blankenhiem and Mrs. Schider - 2nd grade 1:50-2:20
Second graders will learn how to identify bullying behavior and what a bystander can do to help stop bullying. Another focus in second grade is building self-esteem and identifying strengths and recognizing and understanding differences.
Mrs. Brooks - Kindergarten 2:20-2:50
Kindergarten uses the TRAILS series, a primary prevention curriculum. Focusing on a strength-based concept, TRAILS helps children develop resiliency traits that build a strong foundation for healthy habits and positive decision-making skills.
Class session #2 - How Garrett Found His Strengths
Class session #3 - Award Winning Me - my personal strengths
One week will be classroom and the next week will be small groups and individuals on a rotating basis. Small groups are social/emotional education focused while individuals are referrals from teachers or parents.
